AFTERCARE ADVICE

Suspected Ear Infection?

To ensure your safety and the best possible outcome for your treatment, please let us know before your next appointment if you've been experiencing ear pain or suspect you might have an ear infection.

We'll likely recommend you see your GP or a pharmacist beforehand. However, if that's not possible, we can still examine your ear canals to check for any issues that could affect or delay your treatment.

Sore Ears Before Wax Removal?

If you're experiencing itchy, achy ear pain, it may be caused by a buildup of earwax. Often, your earwax removal treatment can help resolve this discomfort.

Sore Ears After Wax Removal?

It's very rare to experience soreness after a wax removal. However, if a large amount of wax was removed, your ear canals may be sensitive. This discomfort should only last a day or two and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.

If the pain continues or becomes moderate to severe, we recommend seeing a GP to rule out an infection.

The "Blocked Ear" Sensation?

When your ears are blocked with wax for some weeks or months, pressure can build up, causing a "cotton wool" or "blocked up" feeling.

After the wax is removed, it's normal to still have this sensation for a few days, especially if warm water irrigation was used. If the feeling continues after a few days, please contact us for advice.

Aftercare Following Ear Irrigation?

After your ear wax has been cleared with warm water irrigation, it's important to keep your ear canals dry to reduce the risk of infection. The irrigation process can temporarily dry out the ear canal and remove some of its natural oils.

These natural oils will return to normal levels within a few days, and no further aftercare is typically needed.

Aftercare Following Microsuction?

Unlike other methods, microsuction does not affect the natural oil levels in your ear canals. Therefore, there is no need to keep your ears dry, and no other aftercare precautions are required.
